Lights on a helmet sit at driver eye level, which is easier to notice than lights mounted low on the bike. Both the Ultra and the Nyxel have front white LEDs and rear red LEDs visible from up to 1,475 feet, and both support wireless turn signals controlled from a handlebar remote β so you can signal more clearly in stop-and-go traffic without taking a hand off the bar for as long.
Helmet lights improve your upper-body visibility and let you communicate direction from head height, but we still recommend pairing them with bike-mounted lights. A headlight on your bars throws a beam onto the road ahead for your own visibility, and a second rear light lower on the bike gives drivers a second reference point. The Ultra and Nyxel can also sync with compatible Lumos Firefly lights through the full Lumos Remote for coordinated flashing patterns.
Lumos commuter helmets are designed for wet-weather commuting. The Ultra E-Bike's product page specifically lists IPX6 water resistance; across the commuter range, Lumos does not recommend rinsing or showering the helmet directly β wipe it down after wet rides instead.
The Ultra runs up to 10 hours on a full charge (about 3 hours via USB-C). The Nyxel runs 3.5β14 hours depending on light mode (about 4 hours to full). For most daily commuters, one charge covers a full work week.
The Ultra weighs 370g and has 22 cooling vents, putting it in the same weight range as standard commuter helmets despite the built-in electronics. The Nyxel is similarly lightweight with a slim urban profile and has been redesigned around a more precise headform for better long-wear comfort. Replacement padding is available, and the Lumos Winter Liner fits both models for cold-weather commutes.
Both are built for daily commuting. The differences come down to what you prioritize:
Lumos offers a 30-day return window on purchases made through its website, subject to original-condition and packaging requirements β see our return policy for full details. Helmets also come with a one-year limited warranty covering manufacturing defects. If you're in a crash, the helmet should be replaced even if it looks fine β the foam inside may be compressed. Our Accident Replacement Program offers a discounted replacement (based on MSRP) for eligible helmets purchased within the last two years; you'll need photos of the damage, the serial number (on the white sticker inside), a description of the accident, and proof of purchase.
